Researchers at the University of Cambridge have developed a robotic skin which can be applied to the robots hands that allows it to interact with its surroundings like humans.

While not as sensitive has a human skin it can detect a wide range of things including the tip of the finger and the change of temperature and damage from cutting.

This is a huge achievement because now robots can understand by touching and that makes them more aware of there surroundings and give them a better understanding of how to handle things like a butterfly or a rock. If connected to a humanoid robot it would be a huge achievement in Humanoid robots because by touching they can tell you how they feel about what they just touched.
