New Technology For making wood

China has unveiled a new technique for making wood stronger, this is called self density wood. The material is said to fextural strength and impact toughness.

This is the result of boiling a block of wood in a mixture of sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfite, removing some of the lignin. The block of wood is then immersed in heated blend of lithium chloride salt and dimethylacetamide which makes it stronger.

This process of heat, moisture and mechanical action is to improve the woods density without changing the characteristics of the wood.
